NHS Services

As a Distance Selling Pharmacy, our pharmacist and trained assistants are available to provide advice on all medicines and minor ailments over the phone or via video link. If you receive prescriptions from us and appear to suffer from any of the following long term conditions, we are able to offer advice on achieving a healthy lifestyle:

• Diabetes  • Be at risk of Coronary Heart Disease (especially those with high blood pressure) • Patients who want to give up smoking • Patients who want to lose weight

We also partake in national and local campaigns to promote healthy living. These may be targeted campaigns e.g. Stop Smoking in January etc. Details of our campaigns will be posted on our home page.

If you feel more comfortable with a face to face consultation, we can direct you to other suitable providers that can offer advice and assistance. Please contact us to find out more

This is an opportunity for our pharmacist to discuss and review the medicines you are taking to ensure you are using them correctly and getting the maximum benefit. We will explain clearly and simply, without any medical jargon, what they are for and the conditions they treat and identify any possible side effects that you may be experiencing. We will listen to you and any problems you are having with your medicines, provide advice and support and if necessary contact your Doctor to discuss any issues that arise from our conversation.

An MUR can help:

  • improve your understanding of the medicines you are taking;
  • highlight problematic side effects and propose solutions where appropriate;
  • improve adherence
  • reduce medicines wastage, usually by helping you only order the medicines you need

As a Distance Selling Pharmacy we can offer you this consultation face to face, and we will contact you beforehand to discuss the do’s and dont’s when attending our pharmacy.

You can have a free NHS flu Jab at our pharmacy:
• If you are 65 years of age or over
• If you are pregnant
• If you are a carer

If you have certain medical conditions including:

• Neurological Disease

When you are prescribed a new medicine by your doctor our pharmacists can offer support and advice to ensure you take the new medication as prescribed without suffering any unwanted side effects or explain any further questions you may have. We usually do this by keeping in contact with you during the first 4 weeks of your new medicine being prescribed.

The service is only available for people living in England, and only for those who have been prescribed a new medicine for the conditions listed:

  • asthma
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • type 2 diabeasthmates
  • high blood pressure
  • people who have been given a new blood-thinning medicine

The NMS can help:

  • improve your adherence (taking your medicines correctly) which will generally lead to better health outcomes
  • increase your engagement with your condition and medicines, supporting you to make decisions about your treatment and self-management
  • reduce medicines wastage
  • reduce hospital admissions due to adverse events from medicine

More about NHS Prescriptions

Prescription costs

For the latest information on prescription costs in the UK Please visit the NHS Health Costs Webpage

Who is entitled to Free NHS Prescriptions?

You can get free NHS prescriptions if, at the time the prescription is dispensed, you:
  1. Are 60 or over
  2. Are under 16
  3. Are 16-18 and in full-time education
  4. Are pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months and have a valid maternity exemption certificate (MatEx)
  5. Have a specified medical condition and have a valid medical exemption certificate (MedEx)
  6. have a continuing physical disability that prevents you from going out without help from another person and have a valid MedEx
  7. Hold a valid war pension exemption certificate and the prescription is for your accepted disability.

You are also entitled to free prescriptions if you or your partner (including civil partners) are named on, or are entitled to, an NHS tax credit exemption certificate or a valid HC2 certificate (full help with health costs), or you receive either:

  1. Income Support
  2. Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  3. Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or
  4. Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

For full details of exemption statuses and the criteria for these exemptions please see the NHS Health Costs Webpage

What is a pre-payment certificate (PPC)

If you are not entitled to free prescriptions and you think you will have to pay for four or more prescriptions in three months, or 15 or more items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC).

You can only use the PPC for your own NHS prescriptions. The PPC will start from the date of your application or phone call unless you request a different start date. You can request a start date of up to one month earlier or one month later than the date of your application or phone call.

Details of the current prescription charges and prepayment certificate costs are available from the NHS Health Costs Webpage

You can choose to pay for a 12 month PPC in a lump sum or by 10 monthly direct debit instalments. If you pay by direct debit you are entering into a commitment to pay all the instalments.

You can order a PPC online, by phoning 0845 850 0030 or by filling in an FP95 form. An FP95 form is available from some pharmacies and GP surgeries.

Remember to apply for a new PPC in good time. If you don’t you will have to pay prescription charges when your old PPC runs out.

If you have to pay a prescription charge while you are waiting for your PPC, you can’t get a refund unless you have an NHS receipt. The NHS receipt form is an FP57. The pharmacist or dispensing doctor can only issue an FP57 at the time you pay a prescription charge. They can’t give you one later. You can claim for the refund of prescription charges up to three months after paying. The FP57 form tells you what to do.

Sending us Proof of Exemption or Pre-payment Certificate

You can use the following methods to share your NHS exemption or pre-payment certificate:

1. Send us a scanned copy to Pharmacy.fvg58@nhs.net

2. Contact us via telephone and we can arrange a pre-paid recorded postage envelope to be sent to you via Royal Mail. Within this envelope a copy can be sent to us

If the above methods are not suitable, please contact us for further advice

A  New way to get your medicines and appliances

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS Service. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice

What does this mean for you?

  • If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send it electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, saving you time.
  • You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as there will be time for your repeat prescriptions to be ready before you arrive.
  • You can choose Dixons Green Pharmacy as your nominated pharmacy regardless of where you live. Using our secure and trusted delivery services we can deliver your medicines to your home or place of work.

Is this service right for you?

Yes, if you have a stable condition and you:

  • Don’t want to go to your GP practice every time to collect your repeat prescription.
  • Have your medicines delivered from the same place most of the time or use a prescription collection service now.

It may not be if you:

  • Don’t get prescriptions very often.
  • Pick up your medicines from different places.

How can you use EPS?

You need to choose a place for your GP practice to electronically send your prescription to. This is called nomination. You can choose:

  • A pharmacy.
  • A dispensing appliance contractor (if you use one).
  • Your dispensing GP practice (if you are eligible).

Ask any pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS or your GP practice to add your nomination for you. You don’t need a computer to do this.

As part of due-diligence we kindly ask all of our patients to complete a nomination form. This is so that we have a firm record that Dixons Green Pharmacy is your preferred pharmacy

Our Nomination form can be downloaded by clicking here: Nomination Form

You can return this form to us by:

1. Sending a scanned copy to Pharmacy.fvg58@nhs.net

2. Contacting us and we can arrange a prepaid recorded delivery envelope to be sent to you.

Should the above not be suitable for you, please contact us and we can advise further

Can I change my nomination or cancel it and get a paper prescription?

Yes you can. If you don’t want your prescription to be sent electronically tell your GP. If you want to change or cancel your nomination speak to any pharmacist or dispensing appliance contractor that offers EPS, or your GP practice. Tell them before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.

Is EPS reliable, secure and confidential?

Yes. Your electronic prescription will be seen by the same people in GP practices, pharmacies and NHS prescription payment and fraud agencies that see your paper prescription now.

Sometimes dispensers may see that you have nominated another dispenser. For example, if you forget who you have nominated and ask them to check or if you have nominated more than one dispenser.

For more information about EPS visit www.cfh.nhs.uk/eps, your pharmacy or GP practice.

For more information about EPS please see the video below:

Benefits to You.

  • If you get a repeat prescription, you will not have to spend your time going to your GP practice each time to pick up your paper prescription. Instead your GP will send it automatically to the place you choose, with less chance of it getting lost.
  • Nearly all pharmacies will be connected to the service, so you will be able to get your medicines from any pharmacy you choose – whether it’s near home, work or the shops.
  • You may not have to wait as long for your prescription items, as often there will be time to get your repeat prescription items ready before you arrive. If any of the medicines on your prescription are out of stock when the pharmacist receives your prescription, they can be ordered in ready for you

We offer this service to all patients across England. However as we are a Distance Selling Pharmacy, you will not be able to directly bring your unwanted medicines to the pharmacy premises. To make life easier, we arrange a specialist courier who can collect this from your home at a date & time best suited to you. To find out how to book this service, please contact us on 01384 956 382 for more information.

Understanding your health and Lifestyle is very important to us, as it helps us tailor your care. As a Distance Selling Pharmacy, our service is delivered to you with no face to face contact.

If you are signing up to us as a new patient, requesting over the counter or have not engaged with us for 6 months or more, our Specialist Pharmacists would like you to complete our Health & Lifestyle questionnaire. This ensures the care we deliver to you is safe, effective and bespoke.

Click here to download our Health & Lifestyle questionnaire

Once you have completed the questionnaire, this can be returned to us via the following:

  1. Email to pharmacy.fvg58@nhs.net  (preferred)
  2. Contact us via telephone and one of our advisors can finalise and sign-off during a consultation
  3. Contact us to arrange a video link consult to finalise and sign-off

As a Distance Selling Pharmacy, all of our patient consultations are completed remotely using techniques such as forms, video link and telephone. By understanding your health and lifestyle, our Specialist Pharmacist can maximise the effectiveness of your consultation. If you think your condition warrants a face to face consultation, contact us and we will be happy to refer you to a suitable provider.

Our Services

We continually look at our services and the quality of our services to you. We analyse and improve these by trying to create an environment where Pharmacists and pharmacy staff can give you the best possible pharmaceutical care. An annual patient satisfaction survey is used to get honest feedback about how you feel we are doing and where we can improve.

As a Distance Selling Pharmacy we are unable to offer a ‘Measured and Fitted’ service. However, If your appliance has already been ‘Measured and Fitted’ we can supply medical appliances and offer information and clinical advice if you use any of the following appliances: certain catheter appliances, tracheostomy and laryngectomy appliances; anal irrigation systems; a vacuum pump or constrictor ring for erectile dysfunction, wound drainage pouches, incontinence appliances and stoma appliances. As a Distance Selling Pharmacy we only offer a delivery and postage service of your appliance, this cannot be collected from our site.

We can dispense your NHS and private prescriptions for you. Information and advice will be offered to you, to help you (and carers) use your medicines safely and effectively. We will also keep appropriate records. We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and use a fast and efficient wholesaler service to enable us to fill all prescriptions promptly.

If you need one of your regular medicines in an emergency when you are unable to contact your doctor, we may be able to help. We must stress that this can only be done in genuine emergencies and it may incur a charge.

We can collect your prescription, get it ready and have it delivered to you from the pharmacy when it is convenient for you.

Dixons Green Pharmacy offer the following delivery services:

  • Royal Mail – 1st Class Signed For
  • DPD – Next Working Day
  • DPD – Saturday by 12pm
  • Royal Mail – Special Delivery by 9am (for chilled deliveries containing fridge lines)
Should you need your prescription with immediate urgency please contact us on 01384 956 382 so we can further assist.

We can advise on medical requirements for travellers, including anti-malaria treatments, avoiding sunburn and tummy upsets. Please contact us as we will have to complete a telephone questionnaire before we can make a supply of any of these medicines

The pharmacy will help support independent living in groups of vulnerable people, or those with special needs, who do not fall within the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 criteria. We can assess your knowledge and use of your medicines and the appropriate level or kind of support, if any, required to help you take the medicines as intended. If support is necessary, the pharmacist will agree with you or your carer the appropriate level or kind of support. We can also provide advice, support and assistance to you with a view to improving your knowledge and use of medicines and compliance, or we may need to refer you to another health or social care professional. Pharmacy support could include compliance charts, screw top closures, medication administration record (MAR) charts, labelling medicines in large fonts and multi-compartment compliance aids.

The NHS Operating Framework introduced a requirement that community pharmacies must comply to certain regulations regarding the management of personal information within the pharmacy. Our computer allows us to keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us. This helps us check for possible problems, such as interactions between medicines, and will help us deal with any queries you may have. We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on Confidentiality. We never share any information with any third parties.

You can order your Repeat Prescription by calling us on 01384 956 382

Important Notes

We strongly recommend you request your repeat prescription a minimum of 5 working days before you run out of your medication.

If you have less than 2 days supply, please contact your surgery directly and ask for an urgent prescription to be issued to us.

If you are a regular patient with us and have been consistently receiving your medication from us, we may be able to provide an “emergency supply” (for certain medication only and at the discretion of the responsible Pharmacist on duty). Please call us to speak about this.

If your surgery can send your prescription to us electronically, we can dispense and post your prescription to anywhere in the UK. Approximately 85% of all prescriptions in the UK are issued electronically.

If your prescription can’t be sent to us electronically, we will arrange collection of our paper prescription from the surgery for you. If you require any prescription urgently beyond our normal turnaround times, please contact us for further advice.

Payment

Important: Although the delivery service is free, if you normally pay the NHS prescription charge, you will be required to pay. To see the latest prescription charges please see here.

Once we have received your prescription from the surgery, we will send you an invoice via text or email where you can pay the required amount using PayPal or credit/debit card.

Other Information

If for any reason we are not able to organise a repeat prescription for your medication with your doctor, we will inform you as soon as we have been made aware of this by the Surgery. Please remember, repeat prescriptions are issued by your doctor and your doctor has complete discretion as to whether to issue the repeat prescription or not.

Possible reasons for not being able to organise your repeat prescription:

  • The Doctor may wish to see you for a consultation prior to issuing a repeat for your medication.
  • The request may be refused if your are ordering too early.
  • You Surgery has not received notification from you that we are your nominated Pharmacy (If you have completed the online EPS nomination we will organise this with the surgery for you.)

Although we make every effort to get your prescription organised in the time frame we have specified, we are dependent on your doctors surgery issuing us with a prescription. We cannot guarantee that your medication will be ready to collect.

Repeat Dispensing

We can dispense Repeat Dispensing prescriptions issued by your doctor. This service is different from a normal repeat prescription as your doctor does not need to be contacted every time you need your medication. Your Doctor will:

1. Set an intended interval between each issue of the repeatable prescription

2. Dictate how many times the repeatable prescription can be issued

Any patient suitable for a repeat prescription could be suitable for electronic repeat dispensing.

This includes but is not limited to:

Patients on stable therapy

Patients with long term conditions

Patients on multiple therapy e.g. hypertension, diabetes, asthma etc.

Patients that can appropriately self manage seasonal conditions

Whilst all the above patient groups are suitable for electronic repeat dispensing the additional functionality allows the patient suitability to be broadened based upon clinical assessment.
